Vistaprint Business Leaders Meet for a Leadership Summit in London

I had the opportunity to attend the Vistaprint Leadership Summit in London in February – and while being away from my family is always hard, it was a great experience to be a part of.

Having only been at Vistaprint for about five months, I was looking forward to the chance to network with new colleagues from around the world.  And what was funny about the experience was that I probably got to meet more people who sit just floors away from me (and in some cases around the corner!) who I have not yet had the chance to meet.  I also spent some time with people that I already knew – but being away from your regular office environment gives you the chance to spend more time getting to know team members in a way that you might not always do when you are rushing home at the end of the day.

I was also looking forward to seeing our new London office – and it did not disappoint! The space, and more importantly, the people are a great reflection of our company and I am excited for our UK customers to get the chance to experience it in the days ahead.

Prior to the summit, I spent time preparing for the Strategy portion of the event. So while going in I was familiar with the content, it was very exciting to see the session come to life through the presenters, and to see how others shared our story and vision.  It is in these types of sessions when you really get to see how passionate and focused our team is about the direction we are headed.

It didn’t hurt that we kicked off that session with a preview of our new Vistaprint commercial – I could not think of a better way to start the day. I would not typically say it is a good thing when your strategy brings you to tears – but in this case, I think we all would have to agree that this was an exception! I think that the commercial embodies our strategy in a meaningful way.

For me, the highlight of our week was the Customer Event. We brought together more than 70 customers – both existing and new – in small group sessions to give us a chance to work directly with them and to understand how Vistaprint can help support their business.

Having sat next to a colleague who was directing the event for the last few months I had heard a lot about what was going to happen – but seeing it come together was a whole different story. Preparing for an event of that magnitude was definitely a group effort (and watching our leadership team put banners together in the middle of the night is always entertaining), but to see the end product from the “customer experience spaces” to the ballroom set up with workstations was not to be believed until you see it.

As I was a greeter for the day, I got the chance to meet each of our customers as they arrived – but more importantly, I got to see the look on their faces when they left. It was hard not to be moved by their feedback on the experience. I really got the chance to understand the impact that we at Vistaprint can have on a person and their business, and more importantly, their life by giving them support to grow their own business.  There were smiles and giggles – and in some cases tears.

I will be able to remember this event each day when I come to work – and it will certainly make me proud of what I get to do every day! I have to say if this is what “Life in Vistaprint” is all about – I am happy I get to be a part of it.
