Vistaprint Graduate Assessment Day – Analytics

440 applications from across Europe, 90 phone interviews, 40 online tests and 12 people attending a Vistaprint graduate assessment day in our Barcelona office…the last 4 months have been a busy time for the Recruitment & Analytics teams in Europe!
In the Autumn of 2014, the Analytics team made the decision to kick-off a new round of Graduate hiring, with the aim of hiring a number of recent graduates to join us in either our Barcelona or London offices in 2015.
After an initial planning meeting; the job description was written, the graduate hiring playbook consulted, timescales decided and by the end of November we were underway. We posted the roles across Europe on both generic job boards and at selected universities to attract top graduates studying disciplines such as Economics, Maths, Business Studies, Statistics and Science.
The roles generated considerable interest across Europe and we received a huge number of incredibly strong applications from graduates wanting to start their Analytics career here at Vistaprint. Between early December and the end of January, the Recruitment and Analytics team conducted over 90 phone interviews, plus carrying out 40 numerical tests to give a sense of the candidate’s maths skills.
The extremely high calibre of the candidates made for some difficult decisions but by the start of February we had confirmed our final 12 and preparation for the Graduate Assessment Day on the 27th February could begin in earnest.
Thanks to fantastic collaboration by the HR, Recruitment, Analytics & Facilities teams the logistics, though challenging, came together smoothly. Key tasks such as travel and accommodation for the graduates, interview scheduling, briefing of interviewers, preparation of the candidate’s goodie bags, food ordering, printing of welcome packs etc. were completed in plenty of time and we could start to look forward to the day itself.
We wanted to give the graduates an interactive day and the chance for them to learn more about Vistaprint, our Analytics offering, and our culture as well as the chance for us to assess their suitability in detail. We therefore split the day in half for the candidates and it consisted of three separate interviews with the Analytics & Marketing teams plus a number of Q&A and collaborative sessions with our previous intake of graduate analysts.
The standard team building/ice breaker activity of building the tallest freestanding tower generated some great results and no small amount of competitive spirit. The graduates also enjoyed the opportunity to play FIFA, table tennis and foosball in their breaks on what was a typical sunny Barcelona day. The assessment day ended with the candidates having the chance to join the weekly ”View” , carnival themed that day, and to relax with drinks and tapas giving them the opportunity to meet the wider company in a fun environment.
For the interviewers and the Recruitment team, the hard work wasn’t over, as the difficult task of choosing the successful candidates began. The high calibre and performance of the graduates made it tough and they can all be very proud of themselves. We have made our decisions though and seen a number of offers accepted, we look forward to welcoming these new additions to Vistaprint in the summer.
We’re already looking forward to the next round of graduate hiring, it’s a big part of Vistaprint’s recruitment strategy and we’re confident our graduates will add great value to the company.
