Berlin Volunteer Day: It’s all about giving back
Author: Leila Pivetta
A group of our Berlin Care Center employees, spent a weekend with their hands in the ground planting trees.
Inspired by the global environment day organized by the company last year, the Berlin Care Center engagement team chose to volunteer and help a local environmental association by planting trees; “we are a printing company, so it makes sense to contribute to the environment by choosing an organization who dedicate its time to plant trees “explains Angela from the engagement team.
Angela found the non-profit association “Auf Buchen” whose task is to reforest the woods of Berlin with beeches and who has three objectives: ecological, social and local. The beech is an important part of the woods in Berlin and this year, the French village of Buchholz, with whom the organization is connected, is 775 years old. It is the perfect opportunity for the association to celebrate the event by planting 775 beeches and our group of volunteers happily participated to the event, enjoying a beautiful sunny day while giving back to the environment.
“It is a nice initiative and a great experience. Planting trees brings awareness and makes us reflect on the environment” says Inana, one of the volunteers.
Regardless of the initiative, volunteering is gratifying and we often get more out of it than we give. “We receive a lot of positive feedback from everyone at work and people are very engaged” says Angela, “we will definitely continue with the Berlin Care volunteer program”.
Volunteering and giving back is definitely a part of our life in Vistaprint.
